So I've been perusing threads, and it seems that certain words get used and bandied about, almost like a new "pet word". So in that spirit, I offer this thread - the "Forum Word of the Day". Feel free to add your own words as you see fit, and enlighten us all :)

*Caveat - please explain the word, and post the source for your explanation. No debate. This is just for fun :)

Pelagian:

The Pelagian Controversy said:
It was the position of Pelagius that Adam’s sin affected Adam and only Adam. That is to say, as a result of Adam’s transgression there was no change wrought in the constituent nature of the human race. Man was born in a state of righteousness, and as one created in the image of God, he was created immutably so. Even though it was possible for him to sin, it was not possible for him to lose his basic human nature, which was capable always and everywhere to be obedient. Pelagius went on to say that it is, even after the sin of Adam, possible for every human being to live a life of perfect righteousness and that, indeed, some have achieved such status.
Pelagius was not opposed to grace, only to the idea that grace was necessary for obedience. He maintained that grace facilitates obedience but is not a necessary prerequisite for obedience.

Politicaster: unofficial meaning = Donald Trump

Official meaning:
politicaster A word for our times (and possibly for all time), “politicaster” is defined in Merriam-Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary as “an unstatesmanlike practitioner of politics” and “a petty or contemptible politician.” That “-aster” suffix is one we slap onto nouns occasionally and which refers to something that is inferior, worthless, or not genuine. You know what to do.

I nominate the word "banana" because I bought some today - and I'm going to cut them up into pieces, freeze them and then add chocolate powder and date sugar/muscovado sugar and some coconut cream to make a really yummy ice cream!

He's strange like that. lol. But now that I've mentioned it also, it is a Bona Fide conspiracy! *shifty eyes*

Impeach(ment):

Wikipedia said:
Impeachment is the process by which a legislative body formally levels charges against a high official of government. Impeachment does not necessarily mean removal from office; it is only a formal statement of charges, akin to an indictment in criminal law, and is thus only the first step towards removal. Once an individual is impeached, he or she must then face the possibility of conviction via legislative vote, which then entails the removal of the individual from office.

Because impeachment and conviction of officials involve an overturning of the normal constitutional procedures by which individuals achieve high office (election, ratification, or appointment) and because it generally requires a supermajority, they are usually reserved for those deemed to have committed serious abuses of their office. In the United States, for example, impeachment at the federal level is limited to those who may have committed "high crimes and misdemeanors".[1]

Coming up tomorrow - "Supermajority"! Stay tuned :)

Brobdingnagian

World Wide Words said:
Pronounced /brɒbdɪŋˈnæɡɪən

It is given to only a limited number of people to add a word to the language, or at least to have been given the credit for doing so. But Jonathan Swift originated eight in his most famous and enduring book, Gulliver’s Travels, of 1726.
The second part of the book, in which Lemuel Gulliver meets the huge inhabitants of Brobdingnag, has bequeathed us this awkward adjective that refers to a gigantic person or thing; these days it can be used for anything huge, not just people.
