Only God knows what they do!
Trust me if a teacher did that it would make the news. When teachers sexually abuse students it makes the news, so if a teacher KILLED a student it would make the news.

I would vote yes if "gun free zone" meant "a zone free of guns". Since a "gun free zone" usually means a zone that is free of lawfully held guns rather than a zone that is free of guns I'd have to vote no.
bingo which is why there should be very few IF ANY of them.

I'm sure it would have made news in Sandy Hook if the teacher who used her body to shield children instead would have shot the gunman, saving not only the lives of the children in her classroom but also others.

Maybe a principal or a designated teacher. But not all teachers. Kids are mischievous little guys. If they know teacher so-and-so has a gun somewhere, some may try and succeed in finding it.

Better to have a resource officer or actual security guards than arming teachers themselves.

Do we really want that though to turn schools and everywhere else into prisons of sorts. Plus, as relates to searching people that would be a bit on the time consuming side. Unless they plan on students arriving and therefore leaving at different times.

that would be good. If I know people are armed I am less likely to do something if I were to mean harm.

If I were a thug, I'd steal his/her gun ;)

If you were a thug who'd steal a gun, you probably already have one. Better to even the odds.

I think if I were a thug I'd assume anyone who had a gun would know how to use it, and therefore trying to steal it while it was on their person would be a Really Bad Idea.

Yeah but you're not a thug and they may think differently.

I was thinking of women who throw them in their purses. See, if you're a substitute teacher, you don't have a key to the teacher's desk. Where do you put your purse? On the chair next to you? On the window sill? Easy distraction to gain access to that purse if the kids know she's carrying.

Some schools have metal detectors that don't force teachers to pass through. So not all thugs will bring their own weapons to school. They'll find other ways to gain access...and they do.

The thing is though if I want to hurt or kill someone badly enough I could use just about ANYTHING. This means that really the people who have guns and do not plan to use them for harm are not the ones you have to worry about.

If you're sufficiently inventive to do something other than take your own gun to cause trouble there are all sorts of other ways to do it. The chemistry lab is an obvious place to start.

I mean it is a school right? You can stab the person with a pencil if you want to hurt them badly enough.
