I know. This one isn't intended that way. That's my "guilty pleasure" story from the bible so I found it funny. Kids had it comin'...

Rather an overreaction though. Mauling 42 children to death seems rather severe punishment for a tiny bit of verbal mockery. I imagine that if bears had guilt they'd feel guilty about killing 42 children just because they said "neyah nehya you're bald and fat and stuff!"

All I can figure is that it was so soon after Elijah being taken up, and that Elisha had been so faithful. He may not have been in the mood for jesting.

Do you think that the story is true? Do you think that God sent the she-bears to kill the children because they called Elisha "baldi-head"?

Given some context with what had recently happened with Elijah, I would hazard a guess that it happened. God may have honored Elisha's request, although we don't know specifically what he asked for - only that he "cursed them in the Name of the LORD"

It paints a very mean picture of God.

Well, that's about all the sense I can make of it. Otherwise, it's really one of those stories you just read and go "mmmmmmmkay.... next..."

I think the guy had some bad character flaws but he was anointed so it wasn't God's will, it just happened, he misused the anointing.
We had a guy in church. He went to the Roberts Liardon Bible school. Gosh these ppl are so arrogant and he was horribly arrogant. Then he proudly told us that he went to a bookstore in America but the guy also sold other books, not only christian and he bought a christian book or a Bible and the guy put it in a brown paper. Mr. thought that was disrespectful towards the Word of God, cursed the bookstore and the bookstore burnt down. Sounds more like witchcraft btw. Crazy.

Jesus rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

crazy and an inflated ego. A surprising number of "anointed preachers" are like that.

Oh yes the disciples wanted fire from heaven too.

Violent little chaps weren't they ... at the beginning. It took them a long while to learn that goodness doesn't aim to obliterate the opposition.
