I started jogging last week and did 5 days of running on the treadmill. I tried running outside today on the hills around here and it was a lot tougher.
I am also doing weight training on machines about 3-4 times a week.

What kind of exercises do you do? Let's encourage each other

Exercise is hit and miss with me. I used to lift regularly and do cardio but I've gotten lazy and haven't in some time. During this last winter here in Aus it has been cold and wet and I couldn't be bothered to even take a walk. Now that the weather is turning a little warmer, I'm taking walks again.

That being said - my fingers get daily exercise :piano:

I voted for how it was before I was diagnosed with cancer which was 4-5 times a week for the poll but in reality I worked out 6 days a week. I will resume that after my recovery from surgery!

I have stopped and started exercising so many times it is amazing. Usually I end up doing too much and hurting myself. I'm trying to go slow this time. Starting exercise at 50 years old is hard

It's hard but not impossible and yes, go slow! Keep a routine and it gets a lot easier and you'll even start looking forward to it daily. I miss not hiking right now but I am trying to take it easy. Even after recovery I don't know if I'll be able to drive in order to go to the park to hike again. But my goal is to try to return to somewhat of a normal life and get back out there. My walks are so important to me! I see the most incredible wildlife and it keeps me happy.

I have three trails that i regularly walk on. two of them are near a lake. I see rabbits and deer and turtles all the time.

I love seeing deer. I can get really close to them because I walk quietly and then they freak out because they realize a human is only a few feet away! LOL

I'm up and down with exercise as well. It helps to have friends that keep you accountable, or even forums like this so thanks for posting about it. I will get back to running again. It's crazy how fast and easily you can get out of shape but how long it takes to get in shape. I guess you have to start somewhere :)

I'm doing shoulder exercises again when I'm at work behind a computer all day. I'll be glad when they give me a laptop.

I ran for 35 minutes straight today on the treadmill. That's the first time in years I have done that.

Since the weather has warmed up and I made some changes to diet (which has increased overall energy) I have upped my exercise and am taking much longer walks than normal. Today I took 1 long walk, then later, a shorter one. I typically take at least one walk a day.

I'd like to start lifting again. I have more energy for it now going mainly plant based (totally Vegan but still using a few processed/incomplete foods here and there). One obstacle to making any kind of real gains stands in the way of that and is the reason I stopped last time. Last remaining bad consumption habit. Alcohol.

There's a proverbial warning about excessive alcohol consumption.

For those who linger over wine too long, ever on the look-out for the blended liquors. Do not gaze at wine, how red it is, how it sparkles in the cup! How smoothly it slips down the throat! In the end its bite is like a serpent's, its sting as sharp as an adder's. Your eyes will see peculiar things, you will talk nonsense from your heart. You will be like someone sleeping in mid-ocean, like one asleep at the mast-head. 'Struck me, have they? But I'm not hurt. Beaten me? I don't feel anything. When shall I wake up? . . I'll ask for more of it!' [Proverbs 23:30-35]

Yes, I'm well aware :)

There's also Habakkuk Chapter 2. The dude who helps lead the whole world astray according to this chapter has a wine habit. But shhh...sort of off topic to the thread.

Paul (not a favourite writer for you I know) writes

Physical exercise is useful enough, but the usefulness of religion is unlimited, since it holds out promise both for life here and now and for the life to come; that is a saying that you can rely on and nobody should doubt it. [1 Timothy 4:8-9]

My husband and I walked over 4 miles yesterday and today I only did 2 but might go out once it warms up more to do another mile or two on our street. My yoga pants were too thin for the morning chill. I need to find my cycling underwear to wear underneath my clothes when I hike now that it's going to be chillier outside.

We have a treadmill that's about 18 years old and it needs a new belt. I'm wondering if it's worth it to try to replace it by myself?
