Making Plans

I was watching Charles Stanley's Sunday message that he titled Planning without God. He started by focusing on how the people of the world joined together to build the tower of Babel and God confused their language. They wanted to build a big tower, but God had other plans. They didn't ask him what he wanted. Some of the points I got out of the message includes that when we leave God out of our plans it reveals our pride and that the absence of God in our plans limits the possibilities of whatever we do.

I have had times when I rushed in and did what I wanted and made a mess out of things. I've also had times when I didn't wait and when I prayed and sought God's voice I didn't hear anything, so I just went ahead. I think as Dr.Stanley said in message the key is listening and obeying God's voice. Sometimes you might know what God wants you to do but you don't want to do it, so you ignore it. That's not a good idea either because you risk missing out on what God wants for you.

Mmmm this is a lesson I am very much in the midst of, my issue, like so many guys, is that I get part of the plan from God and then believe I know ALL of it and rush on ahead to get it done! I am having to learn that I (we) am called to be a Follower and I cant do that from way out in front!

For me, God rarely shows up early. It is more like following someone with a flashlight rather than a room full of light. You can to take it one step at a time.

I see this all the time where someone knows they are called to be a preacher or an evangelist and they run ahead of God and are ill preparwed for the call. This is a part of why many are called and few are chosen, many recieve the call but few are willing to make the sacrifices required.

Sometimes God's plans are loud and clear even if our stubborn minds refuse to see it.

I usually see it just fine, I just don't want to do it.
I don't remember the exact verse, but Paul says that the flesh is hostile to God and doesn't want to please God and cannot. I think we have to start by admitting that there is something within us that wants to rebel and be on the throne of our lives instead of God.

edit post it is Romans 8:7 "The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so."

That reminds me of when Samuel anointed David to be king. He had to wait a long time for Saul to die in battle before he could take the throne. There was an incident where Saul went into a cave and it was within David's power to kill him, but he didn't do it. He let God do things in his time and was rewarded for it.

I'm with you on the rushing in thinking I got God's plan all in my head and that's when God proves me wrong and BAM I'm kinda lost in the shuffle and have to wait and see what he really wanted me to do on following through. Isn't that kinda like God's timing isn't always our timing and we rush whereas his plans take time, like, look at Jesus and how long it took for him to be born, ya know?

Exactly how do you let God have his say in the plans? For example, if you plan to build a house how does God feature in the plan?

I lived in a nice big house and he tells my ex to go some other place. I have no choice but to take what's available there and rent it. Easy decision making. There was one apartment available immediately nearby. Build a house? Then He must speak really clear that He wants you there for a long while. Renting is easier if He all of a sudden says: move now.
