Yes, squirrels are very destructive. I dont like them for that even with all their cuteness
If they only took the food they wanted to eat I'd happily leave food out for them. But when they dig up a seed bed for the seeds they don't even want now, then dig up another seed bed so they can save the first seeds for later, it is more than a little annoying. They basically trash two seed beds just so they can bury the seeds that were already buried quite nicely. And so they found they had an appointment with Mr Air Rifle next time they visited.
Curiously that seems to be the only area where firearms legislation is stricter in the US than the UK. In the UK squirrels are considered a pest species and although the most powerful weapon I could own was an air rifle I was allowed to use it to shoot squirrels. As I understand the legislation in the US squirrels are considered a game species, can't be shot without a license, and can't be shot with an air rifle at all.
