I thought about putting this in the men's forum, but I want input from the ladies as well. When I was growing up guys didn't have long hair. Except maybe for people on television or rock bands. One exception comes to mind is the band KISS that was popular in the 70's. Of course, they wore makeup also.
I noticed when taking my son to school there seems to be a lot of guys his age that have long hair. He has very long hair, but pulls it back when he goes to school. What do you think about that? I can remember a time when I had shoulder length hair and I was told by someone that it was a sin. Now, I'm just glad I have hair. LOL

In my younger days generally the only men who had long hair were rockers and metalheads. I tried to grow my hair long but it didn't work very well - it got to a certain length and then whatever I did with it looked like an effeminate hairstyle so I had it cut short. I still sometimes wish I could grow it long but, like you, I'm just glad I have some of it left. From here if I try and grow it long it just looks like it slipped...

Don't usually care......

But I'm not personally fond of old men with grey hair and it hanging way down or (worse) in a pony tail.... that "look" IMO isn't attractive but hey, whatever.... No, it's not a "sin" but that doesn't mean it's attractive. My rule: As a trusted girl (or two or three). Yup, until my wife came into my life, my older sis largely held that role: she'd tell me when I needed to change up things, and eventually I learned to listen.

When I was a boy, I had a lot of hair, not down my back or anything but lots of blonde hair. I actually went to the beauty shop of my mom and sister (but keep that between us, lol) and frankly was kinda obsessed about how it looked. But while it did the whole "cute" thing, when I got into my mid teens, "cute" wasn't what I was going for - and so went to a MEN'S barber shop and cut it off, fairly short (think athletic), which practically made my mom cry but it added years to my life - just made me look more mature. Later, I went with the whole "1950's tradition" look, complete with the front comb over, with hair not as blonde as it once was.

I'm only 6 years younger than you and when I went to school there were plenty of guys with long hair. Many of them were "heshers" (heavy metal fans/instrumentalists) but not all of them. I remember one individual who was a serious classical guitarist who had long hair also.

I find it highly ironic that the idea that it is a sin comes from a certain section of people who's Savior is almost always depicted as having long hair (and He almost certainly did, as it is the law of the Nazarite.) "Long hair is a sin" seems to me to be a case of cultural Christianity more than anything. Even Saul/Paul (of whom I am not a fan) said that there is "no such custom" among the brethren should anyone have contention (1 Corinthians 11:14-16).

When I was in Jr. High and High School the guys with long hair were burnouts. Now all kinds of guys have long hair. I'm not particularly attracted to them. The only exceptions would be (all from Harry Potter movies):

Severus Snape
160

Lucius Malfoy
latest

and

Xenophilius Lovegood

Some guys can pull it off but IMO most can't. I don't have a strong opinion to what most other 'dudes' do or don't do.

When I was in grade school our family didn't have much money so my dad tried to cut my hair and it really came out bad. Lol so he buzzed it off which I actually liked because it helped keep me cool and was easy to take care of.

In the mid to late '70's I grew my hair to shoulder length but since I turned 50 I started getting it buzzed off again. I guess I had it right in the first place:)

It might have had something to do with where I lived. I grew up in Texas where it was more common to see guys wearing cowboy hats than having long hair.
The guy who said something to me about my hair was a complete stranger. I had never seen him before or again. I thought it was odd that someone would judge me based on such a trivial thing

Yes and in extreme Dutch reformed churches it was a sin to have a beard. They must have the wrong translation.

Maybe I should have gone Dutch Reformed.... I couldn't grow a beard if my life depended on it.

Mmm. Yes. Southern California a bit different in the late 80's early 90's for youth than Texas I'd reckon.
