Disabling smilies

Is there a way to permanently choose this option? Sometimes I like to use smilies, but I'd like to use them when I want. Most of the time I like text smilies such as and the like.

There is no one time disable smilies feature here without having to install a hack modification. The only way I see to do it within your own post is to use the Go Advanced to create your post.

I want the following two "smilies" that used to work on AOL ... the sheep that faced left and the alien with the probe that lined up with the sheep's bum hole. Those would come in useful these days.
