10 years ago, when our cat died, I decided I was going to get a seal point siamese. We ended up with two from a breeder as where I lived, not much in the way of these cats in shelters. 6 years ago, we decided to get a dog and settle on a shih tzu and also got her from a breeder as again, not happening through a shelter. We love them all and make good choices with the ones we got.

My cat was originally adopted from the pound by my direct neighbors. As I understand it, she had been through previous owners, been abandoned, and lived on her own in suburbia for some time, killing rabbits, birds, etc to survive.

One day in the middle of cutting down my tree, she appeared in my yard and looked at me. Thinking she might be wild, I tried to coax her but she was shy and would have none of it. Knowing nothing of her adoption, on a day she was around I coaxed her with some food, which she accepted. I started coaxing her into my home to have food, which she eventually felt more comfortable with.

Around this time I found out she belonged to the neighbors. The husband, who informed me, also informed me with several offhand comments that it was his wife's idea and he wasn't very fond of cats. These neighbors had 2 small children and dogs as well. That was fine. I decided I wouldn't feed it any more and divide it's loyalty - cat belonged to them. I made it known the cat was welcome anytime. I think this probably gave him an idea.

Then, on a rainy night, the cat came around and meowed at my window. I wondered why it was outside at all on a night like this. So I took it in and fed it. It was then I suspected that the cat might have been purposely put outside by the husband of the family next door.

Eventually the cat started hanging out at my place more than the neighbors. In another conversation, the husband said that he had informed his kids that the reason for this was that the "cat just didn't like us". Then it hit home. Cat liked my (larger) yard. Cat disliked kids always smothering it, and disliked the dogs. Husband didn't like cats and knew I did. Everything fell into place.

For some time, cat caught numerous wildlife and either planted it at my door or tried to enter with it. Eventually, she has learned I am not interested nor do I approve and she shows her affection/gratitude with a type of kitty cuddles that no other cat has ever done for me.
