Hebrews 9:22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

When Adam and Eve sinned atonement needed to be made for fallen mankind.

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned.

In the Old Testament the animal sacrificed needed to be clean and unblemished. Exodus 12:5 Your lamb must be an unblemished year-old male,

The Old Testament was a foreshadowing of what was to come...to bring forth the Savior promised in Genesis to Adam and Eve:
1 Peter 1:18-19 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot.

Jesus took our sins to the cross:
Isaiah 53:5-6 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.

Jesus' blood was not for some sins or for some people. It was for all the world for all of time
1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

His Resurrection proves that the blood sacrifice God required was accepted and Jesus need not die again. Romans 6:9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, He cannot die again; death no longer has dominion over Him.
