Referring to Matthew Ch 2, about wise men.

Who could they have been and what scripture could they have read with this prophecy and what relevant interest was it to them?

It is not specified that there were three, nor are we told if they were Jews. They wanted to worship this child.

Would these men have been some kind of seers with ability to predict the future? In which case that goes against what the Bible teaches about avoiding anyone to do with witchcraft or mediums. They decided not to tell King Herod, which indicates that they wished to protect the newborn king as they saw him.

We never hear of them again, which is mysterious.

They were μάγοι (i.e. magi).

This brings a further thought. Are we to deduce that there is therefore substance to astrology, meanings attached to the position of the stars? The wise men made a long journey after all.

No substance to astrology as seeking the stars or horiscope to tell our future.

But, there is substance to the fact that God created what we know as the 12 signs of the 'zodiac' as the first Gospel given to man. We find in the book of Job, (38:31-32), this statement. " Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?"

Mazzaroth is the Zodiac. Orion and Pleiades are constellations or star groups.

It's a fascinating study starting with Virgo the virgin and ending with Leo the lion. Each one of the 12 signs depicting something having to do with the great salvation that God was bringing.

Of course it is not needed today as a source of information from God as we have God's Word in the Bible which far exceeds this first revelation in the stars. And it is no surprise that satan has attacked and perverted that first revelation and made it into a form of divination that is hated by God. But, that is to be expected.
