From another thread this statement was posed:
The trouble with the "we do absolutely nothing" is that it literally turns the Bible into a waste of paper, describing a deity who spent thousands of years wasting his breath handing out instructions of how we should live when nothing makes any difference.

The Holy Bible was not given to tell us just how to live our lives. It's about God saving His Children by grace through faith, trusting in Jesus' death and resurrection for the forgiveness of our sins so we could have eternal life.

And yet we do see that the Holy Bible tells us how we are to live our lives...obeying God's Law which is itself Good and Holy. So why is that if it's not to gain something from God such as eternal life? Eternal life is not something we earn but it's a gift from God, freely given by Him and solely by His efforts, not ours.

So why obey God's Law if it doesn't give us something in return? That type of question should right there show you that obeying to receive something first off isn't by grace and secondly is free. Does God need us to obey? No. But we obey God's Law as believers because it is good and holy, reflective of who HE is. It shows our love for Him. And not only that but it shows our love to our neighbors. Two of the biggest commandments Jesus spoke of was Loving God and our Neighbors.

You see it isn't a waste of time to live our lives as God wants us to live. It doesn't earn us eternal life, for Jesus did that, but our neighbors benefit greatly when we try not to break God's commandments. That is never a waste of time.

It's never a "waste of time" to live well, wisely, pleasing to God. Even if such does not render Jesus worthless as Savior.

The Bible says this to the DEAD, the unbeliever, the self-righteous/self-trusting, the atheistic enemy of God: "You have fallen and you can't get up; you are not was you are required to be"
The Bible says this to the LIVING, to those who have the divine gift of life/faith/Holy Spirit/salvation: "Rely on Christ, use your faith and the Holy Spirit to grow in love, morality and service."

God does NOT say to the DEAD: "Live perfectly and that will cause you to come to life." God says to the LIVING: "Now live the life you have been given."

I think there is a huge movement to portray God as "not fun". Well, that's Satan's propaganda message of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, so to speak. However, though, Christ taught us to live "the abundant life" - which is what real human existence is, but we can only understand it by submitting to it. In other words, "The truth will set us free.".

As a side note, we don't really know a lot of things and might be afraid to ask. For instance, is there sex in heaven? Is it disrespectful to ask? Well, in many instances, but surely enough, Satan's message is that "the abundant life is boring.".

Over the years, paying attention to God's Word and how it tells me to live has helped me avoid a lot of problems. It is as Psalm 119 says a Light to our path
