Ugh, Because the Little Drummer Boy is a silly song written in 1941 that has no basis in Christian Tradition or Scripture. It comes from the imagination of a composer not Scripture. I don't know anyone who actually believes there was a little drummer boy. It is just a silly tune that gained popularity. It is about as scriptural as "Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer".

As for why Matthew's gospel doesn't mention the drummer boy, it's probably for the same reason it doesn't mention Mariah Carey's Christmas song.
