Why do people say that Tobit 1:15 is historically mistaken?

“When Shalmaneser died and his son Sennacherib reigned in his place, the roads were unstable and I could no longer travel to Media.”
-Tobit 1:15, (OSB)

Why is this historically wrong?

Just because something is 100% accurate does not mean that the book of Tobit is ERGO Ipso Facto, Norm of Norms the canonical inspired word of God!

(just don't apply that logic to the Bible tho, it's 100% accurate yes but it's inspired you see)

Ah….so that’s how it works.
I wonder why everyone else is too scared to answer this.

Let's assume the history of this singular remark is correct. SO WHAT?

I would not be surprised to learn that there are historically correct statements fond in over 1,000,000 books. Perhaps 10,000,000 or 100,000,000 books. So what? What does that prove? What would be your point?

Could you list for us the historians (Ph.D.'s only please) who insist this statement is historically incorrect and their evidence for that? List their names and the evidence each presents. Or is that irrelevant to you?

There’s a number of them. Here’s one. His name is David Daniels. He has a PhD. He claims Tobit is historically inaccurate on this point.

***That video clip is just of him talking about This mistake. His full video is here:

You know, when you say “So what” in big bold letters, it’s very disrespectful of you. It’s like you’re trying to diminish the importance of the conversation’s topic at hand. It’s just a very hostile approach when you do that, and it’s very unChristlike.
Jesus said God has the very hairs of your head numbered. He notices when even a sparrow falls to the ground. The details of history are important, no matter how much you try to diminish its importance.

Wrong! David Daniels does not have a PhD.

Oh really? I thought I remember him saying he has a PhD.

Anyway, that’s not very relevant. If you look up the information on Encyclopedia Brittanica, it says that Sargon ruled for 17 years in between Shalmaneser and Sennacherib.
Dr. Georges Roux is also a historian who has written books on ancient Iraq, and he says in his one of his books that Sargon ruled for 17 years between Shalmaneser and Sennacherib.

So, does this mean that Tobit is historically mistaken then?

Encyclopedia Britannica says that Sargon II ruled for about 16 or 17 years before Sennacherib took the throne. So this means that Tobit 1:15 is mistaken, right?

Mistaken in what? For what?

The OP suggests that ONE statement in this book might be wrong in terms of HISTORY. Personally, without any research, I don't know if this one statement is wrong or not. But what if it's not? What significance is that? I suspect there are MILLIONS of books that contain a statement that is historically correct.

Do you have a point you are trying to make?
