Why did Ignatius say that by alms and fidelity sins are purged away?

Acceptance of the Trinity & Nicene Creed
Yes
I dunno but maybe its because it's from Scripture?

Isn't almsgiving just another word for charity? and isn't charity the highest form of Love?

I know that Jesus and His Holy Apostles along with the angel Raphael preached the same thing

“And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”
-1 Peter 4:8 (KJV)

CHARITY, n.
1. In a general sense, love, benevolence, good will; that disposition of heart which inclines men to think favorably of their fellow men to think favorably of their fellow men, and to do them good. In a theological sense, it includes supreme love to God, and universal good will to men.
1 Cor 8. Col 3. 1 Tim 1.
2. In a more particular sense, love, kindness, affection, tenderness, springing from natural relations; as the charities of father, son and brother.
3. Liberality to the poor, consisting in almsgiving or benefactions, or in gratuitous services to relieve them in distress.
4. Alms; whatever is bestowed gratuitously on the poor for their relief.

-Noah Webster’s 1828 dictionary

How ironic. The first generation of Christians agree with Peter. Go figure.

For context:

Use hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
1 Peter 4:9-10
