I've long been a fan of James Corbett because of his ability to sift through an plethora of information seeking to better understand local and world events, delivering a broader understanding of them as opposed to the "news candy" fed to the general public that frames any given situation and informs them what their views should be - usually through a simple dualism of "us vs them", "democracy vs freedom", "good vs evil" that the powers that be feel is good enough for the masses.

So I recently came across this analysis of the Ukraine situation and thought it was informative so I shall share a link to it here.

Don't expect a CNN, NBC, ABC ...other corporate media style "news munchie" here - it's a lot of information to form a broader understanding of what is really going on.

What's Happening in Ukraine? - Questions For Corbett

Putin resents that Ukraine was able to spin off and become independent again...and worse, has become increasingly Western and capitolistic. His efforts to win over the country have failed miserably. His only two options is to sit back and allow the country to grow increasingly Western and soon join NATO or invade.

The US now has a very, very weak president who isn't going to get in his way. Instead of a Reagan, we have a Carter. And the Western European nations aren't any better right now, instead of a Churchill they have Chamberings.

Putin has his window.

I'd read a transcript but have little interest in watching videos of someone speaking.

I agree that the US has a weak leader although in fairness the US overall seems like a very weak country right now. It seems there's more interest in renaming schools and fussing over pronouns than in ensuring future security, inflation is running out of control and people will "stand with Ukraine" as long as it doesn't do anything ugly - you know, like adding 50c to a gallon of gas. Sanctions on Russia are a Very Good Thing, until they add a dime to the price of gas in which case they instantly become a Very Bad Thing.

As with so much else, everybody rushes to "stand with whoever it is today", as long as it doesn't involve them having to do anything more than updating their Farcebook profile with a picture featuring some trendy new logo. Because nothing says you're willing to stand with someone and help them through quite like a couple of colored stripes on a picture on a web site.

It's actually hard to see what could be done to stop Putin, even assuming there's any desire to do it. As the coronavirus fades away it seems like we need another bogeyman to keep people scared.

I believe the former Grand Master chess champion of Russia Garry Kasparov beginning at -timestamp- 22:20 of the Starr Forum: Trump-Putin Phenomenon
sheds some very good insight of Putin.
A very brief statement by Garry Kasparov on the present actions of Putin can be found here.
In the brief immeduately preceding video Garry Kasparov explains what must be done.

Trying to force 'regime change' on Russia would result in WWIII. A nuclear war. Does Kasparov really want that? I don't think so.

I personally think the U.S. is edging too close in giving weapons to Ukraine. Is the U.S. trying to provoke Putin?

If we go to WWIII, there will be plenty of regime change to go around for everybody in the world.

Here are some considerations.

What is so different from Russia being suspicious of NATO getting closer at her back door if Ukraine joins NATO, then the Cuban Missle Crisis in the 60's, where the U.S. said Russia would be too close for the U.S. safety?

Why is the U.S. so willing to allow a state of the Soviet Union to separate from the Soviet Union, or any where else for that matter, but will not allow a state from it's own nation to secede?

Why does the U.S. govt. and media condemn Russia for civilian casualties when it declared 'total war' on it's own people the South during the War Between The States. And that 'total war', everyone in America just applauds though it killed untold civilians.

Why did the U.S. bomb German cities and Japanese cities to submission during WWII, killing thousands, if not millions of civilians. Does any one remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Dresden?

So, you see. All these claims lately of the Media and the Govt. of Putin being a war criminal, would have more weight with me, if the U.S. was not such a hypocritical nation.

My opinion.
