My old bike is good enough. I don't want a new one. Right brake doesnt work, but that doesnt matter. Got used to that. I could use a new bell though.

If you lived near me I'd give you my bike! Or I could fix your brakes...I've gotten good at that.

Fix brakes? Oh wow. I thought it was fabulous I could get my wheel off to fix a flat tire

What sort of brakes do you have? Unless you have disk brakes the chances are you don't need to take the wheel off to fix them unless you need to replace the brake pads. Caliper brakes and cantilever brakes are best adjusted with the wheel still in place so you can make sure everything aligns right.

The cable is broken. They're disc brakes.

Replacing the cable should be easy enough, and cables are pretty cheap. You can probably find a video on Youtube to show you how to do it.

Getting another car is about the furthest thing from my mind.

@Messy are e-bikes popular in Holland? You know, the kind that supplement pedal power with a bit of electricity for distance, hills, etc.

Yes there are loads of ebikes. I had one with a carriage when the kids were smaller. There was an American guy on christian forums years ago, who thought it was interesting and lol then he just made his own one. He had hills there or mountains, so he used a way stronger motor, put it on a 3 wheel bike he made and went to work like that.

I had this one:

Years ago I saw a web site based (I think) in the midwestern USA, that offered small engines you could mount to a rear shelf on a bicycle. Apparently these things could propel a regular bicycle to about 40mph and still return 100+mpg.

It shouldn't be difficult to propel a regular bicycle at much higher speeds, it's just a question of whether the brakes etc are up to the job of slowing down again from a higher speed, and the implications of coming off at a high speed. I remember years ago I was driving in the Great Smoky Mountains and some of the roads were uphill for many miles at a time. I can't imagine cycling up those would be a whole lot of fun. The Rockies must be even worse.

I already complain when there's a dyke. Aaah! A mountain!!! Once I went to Belgium w my brother. One on a bike and one on a moped with the tie from my BIL tied around the steering wheel from the moped. You could hold it when you were on the bike. We went fast downhill. The Belgian police was very sweet. That's a bit dangerous guys.
