My first date with my husband was when we were teenagers and we just went out. Normally our dates were with other people at first.

I went to a lunch date with my wife after church.

I took her to a play at the Blackstone in Chicago, I think it was "Deathtrap". Then went to Gino's East a very hip Chicago style pizza place at the time. That was 38 years ago.

We met via an internet dating site. We chatted online a few times, then on the phone. When we agreed to meet in person, we arrived (separately) at a very nice restaurant we both knew about and liked - a pretty upscale fish restaurant on the water. I made a reservation (and paid a bit to get the best table). The first personal meeting at a public place is wise.
