Matthew shares these words of Jesus in chapter 11...
Jesus is comparing his teaching to the other rabbi's as well as the rigid temple system. He is calling all Israel to follow his teaching because, unlike the others, Jesus is gentle and lowly, his teaching provides rest for the soul, and his burden is light (as opposed to the heavy burden placed on people by Sadducees and Pharisees).
These verses go contrary to anyone who teaches that you must do something first in order to merit Jesus fellowship.
Rabbi's referred to their specific teaching as the yoke. It was the guiding principles that taught their disciples the way they ought to follow God.28*Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29*Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30*For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
