Didn't Jacob kiss Rachael when he first met her? I think he did.

But there are differences in how you kiss a person, like Lamb said. Rachael was to be Jacob's Wife (14 years later! Whoa!) so I'm betting that Jacob did not kiss her sexually or draw her close out of respect. That's not how things are done and that could get you killed back in those days. So it was a kiss of hope for Jacob. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Can you say no to yourself and mean it? Because if you have a control problem, then your instincts may be right?

My understanding of the Song of Solomon is that it is a celebration of romance within marriage given to God. It is important to keep romance alive in marriage.

I was a pastor for 27 years, and my one rule about women in the church was that I stay away from hugging them, much less kissing them, to avoid temptation and the appearance of impropriety.

The Bible does not say anything about kissing in heaven, but Jesus does say that there will be no marriage there. Our "marriage" will be with God.

On the other hand, there was during Bible times, such a thing as a "holy kiss," which Paul and Peter command Christians to do. How are we to understand the following commands?

Rom_16:16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.
1Co_16:20 All the brothers send you greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss.
2Co_13:12 Greet one another with a holy kiss.
1Th_5:26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
1Pe_5:14 Greet one another with the kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.

One very good principle of interpretation is to look for the principle or main idea in a verse or chapter and to apply that idea in our culture. For example, holiness, that is, separation from sin, is the principle here in the Christian action of greeting one another, as it is today in France and the Mideast. In that culture, kissing of men with men and women with women was the normal greeting. In our culture, it might be applied as a "hearty, holy handshake."
