Should the church condemn it, or not?

I’ve never smoked marijuana, and I think it smells terrible, and I wish it was still illegal. That’s what I think. But I can’t say I have any biblical doctrine to condemn it.

The Biblical doctrine to condemn weed is the same for condemning drunkenness. "Being Sober minded" and "Drunkenness" would include not having your mind altered by any substance for the purpose of pleasure.

Having said that, I tend to me more libertarian that I used to be. Smoking Pot is stupid but we shouldn't make laws to keep people from being stupid, when it only effects them personally. Freedom means having the ability to make poor decisions.

From a societal standpoint I think we legalized the wrong mind altering substance. When someone gets drunk on alcohol they( (at least some people) tend to get into bar fights and be abusive to others. When people get stoned they eat pizza, listen to music, and are amazed at silly things (like how perfectly the pattern of square on the ceiling are). Someone who is stoned has no desire to get into a fight. Mainly because being stoned creates paranoia and the biggest toughest dude is afraid the 5'5" 120 dude can beat him up. :)

There's lots of health benefits of marijuana, not just smoking it. More and more every day they're finding out more things that it helps. Jesus drank wine, did He get drunk? No. The Bible doesn't condemn marijuana itself or wine itself, only drunkenness and let's not forget addiction. Plus hemp is used for so many things, both plants were stigmatized while alcohol runs rampant. Should everyone do it? No, but it's between you and God what you doing. It's the same with alcohol. I understand you may not like it, but not everyone who does it is stupid. God made this medicine for us in a fallen world, and you don't have to do anything but pick it. Not like pharmaceuticals, and alcohol, processed and such. It's illegal in Texas though, so its a no go here.
