Colossians 1:13-14

For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

To me being (re)deemed would imply we as mankind represented as Adam amd Eve were under God's dominion but due to the choice of our original parents caused mankinds removal from God's presence/grace resulting in a fallen nature under the dominion of the prince of the air of this world. Then God set in to action His plan of redemption with the price of His Son's blood purchasing those elected before the foundation of the world and transferres them into the kingdom of God. REDEEMED!

I have heard it said that being redeemed is going from bondage to sin into new freedom of life. Christ bought us back from our bondage. There are other instances in the bible of the redeemer concept such as Ruth and the book of Isaiah. Here's an interesting tidbit from Wikipedia:

Goel (the Go’el HaDahm) is a Hebrew term which comes from the word lig'ol ("to redeem"), hence meaning "redeemer", which in the Hebrew Bible and the rabbinical tradition denotes a person who as the nearest relative of another is charged with the duty of restoring the rights of another and avenging his wrongs.
