What book of the Bible do you find yourself turning to most often for comfort and support? For me, that seems to change over time. Right now I would say Colossians or possibly 1 John

I tend to turn a lot of the Gospel and First Epistle of St. John. I guess they are my two favorite biblical Books.

Pedrito does not normally look for comfort and support in that manner.

He knows that Christians can expect and will experience a mixture of blessings and trials.

When the trials come, he simply grits his teeth and battles his way through them, knowing that each one will have a definite end.

Naturally, prayers for strength and purpose fulfilment play their part.

However, there was a time in teenage years when 1 Corinthians 1:23-28 was very important.

It gave Pedrito … not comfort, not understanding … maybe insight is the word … into why God would choose to have any regard for someone whom everyone else delighted to look down on.

Those verses were a source of encouragement, a major source of encouragement, and in reality probably the only source of encouragement, for many years.

But it was not a matter of solace or comfort – it was more like wonderment.

Please understand that Pedrito is not knocking the idea of people finding comfort and support in the Bible.

It’s just that there are others who naturally see things from a slightly different perspective.

The Psalms can be very comforting.

Oh dear, I am not certain I have a book that I turn to but I do have verses and one is from the book of Matthew that says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” This is the verse that brings comfort to me in the arms of my Savior.
