From the article: The child’s mother has said Quantavious urinated behind her vehicle while she was visiting a lawyer’s office in Senatobia, Mississippi, on Aug. 10. Police officers in the town of about 8,100 residents, 40 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee, saw the child urinating and arrested him. Officers put him in a squad car and took him to the police station.

What is crazy to me is that the cops who made the arrest were fired because of the arrest, and yet the prosecutor still pressed charges.

What are your thoughts?

It's ridiculous. If you have to go then you have to go, and there's only so long you can hold it before it's going to come out regardless.

Of course there are different levels of discretion. It's hard to have much sympathy if someone simply stands in the middle of the street taking a leak but as long as someone makes reasonable efforts to maintain a bit of privacy it's hard to know what else they are expected to do.

On one hand it can be really hard to find a public convenience, and on the other you're expected to not go until you can find something that may not even exist.

Wonder why he didn't just go (no pun intended) into the lawyer’s office and ask to use the restroom.

Perhaps they got there early and it was closed. Perhaps the office was open but the restroom was occupied. Perhaps he just really had to go urgently and thought that the cover of a car was enough to maintain the required privacy for a short time.

Outside of openly going in flagrant disregard for public decency, arresting and pressing charges seems excessive.

Too many cameras. We live in a police state and everything is a big deal.

Flagrant disregard for public decency is one thing. I remember seeing some guy, drunk and being egged on by his drinking buddies, taking a leak from the upstairs balcony of a bar onto the cars parked below. That's the kind of situation where you wonder why there can't be a cop around.

Aside from that, it's a natural bodily function. It's pretty lame when the only lawful option is apparently to go in your pants.
