"The Employment Tribunal in the United Kingdom ruled in favor last week of a Christian nurse who said she was forced into resigning from her job at a London hospital after being harassed over her cross necklace for years.

Mary Onuoha took legal action against Croydon Health Services NHS Trust after resigning in June 2020 following years of being targeted for wearing a small cross necklace that she was told posed "a health and safety risk."

After she refused to stop wearing her necklace, NHS management offered her a compromise by which she could wear it on a longer chain to keep the cross out of sight, which she also refused."

I'm glad she stood up for her religion!

I'm not sure that there's anything in the Christian faith that requires people to wear crosses.

That said if a "health and safety risk" can be mitigated by increasing the length of a chain to conceal what is on the end of it, it's hard to see just how substantial a risk the cross actually represents. I'd be intrigued to know how a small cross, on a (presumably thin) chain, represents any risk to anyone's health and safety. Given how thin the chains typically used for women's jewelry are it's not as if it would represent a threat to her if someone were to grab the chain and pull hard - in all likelihood the chain would simply break.

I am thankful she won. Here, you will find nurses wearing all sorts of jewelry. I also wear my cross all the time. My current patient's twin commented on my the other day.
