Eleven-year-old transgender girl Dempsey Jara, the youngest grand marshal in the history of Orlando’s Come Out With Pride parade, had a message Saturday when she took the stage at Lake Eola Park.

Her mother Jaime Jara, 45, a schoolteacher, beamed beside her on stage. Off stage, she said her youngest child has always known who she was.

“She’s just always gravitated toward girl things, girls’ toys. We didn’t have any of that stuff at home. She has two older brothers,” Jaime said. “She’d say, ‘I’m a girl in my heart and my brain.’ She’s been on this journey since she was 5 and she’s living her best life.”

Question: Do you think a child as young as 5 has the mental ability to "know" they were born the wrong gender? (Why or why not)

No.

Not sure why I'd have to clarify that. Young children are extremely impressionable. They rely on parents/elders/teachers to teach them about life, and what things mean. Obviously the mother swallowed the Kool-Aid in interpreting the actions of a 5 year old, or maybe even encouraging them on some level, of a son who may have rejected perhaps the excesses of whatever his 2 older brothers were into. If she's in the US or another country that pushes the transgender garbage in public school, there'd be no surprises there, either.

Agreed.

When I was little, I wanted to be a dog. I'm so glad I wasn't encouraged to keep believing that, because adults CAN impress upon a child and often do so without realizing it. Or maybe they do?

Funny how a child isn't allowed a single cigarette because they aren't considered responsible enough, yet apparently they know without any doubt at all that they want to make such fundamental changes to their body.

There's a difference between being a girl and wanting to play with things typically associated with girls. Maybe if we could get over the idea that boys should play with GI Joe and guns and girls should play with frilly pink things we'd be part way to a solution.

I am shocked by how west can fall this low. LGBTQ+ is clearly winning hardcore and the majority is being ruled over by minority. Thank God I am not born there.
