It's Friday in Australia, and in my locale tomorrow is election day. I live in the "canning" electorate and our previous member died of sudden heart failure so we have what is called a by-election on Saturday, 19th September 2015. We'll probably have a national (federal) election some time next Year (before October 2016) so whoever wins the by-election will face the electors again in about a year or less.

We have 12 candidates.
  1. Vimal Kumar Sharma, Palmer United Party [Crazy billionaire party]
  2. Connor Whittle, Liberal Democrats [Essentially Libertarian]
  3. Michelle Allen, Pirate Party [odd fringe party]
  4. Greg Smith, Australian Defence Veterans Party [Sectional interest …]
  5. Katrina Love, Animal Justice Party [Sectional interest …]
  6. Andrew Hastie, Liberal [main stream party]
  7. Teresa Van Lieshout, Independent [conspiracy nutter]
  8. Matt Keogh, Australian Labor Party [main stream party]
  9. Vanessa Rauland, The Greens (WA) [main stream party]
  10. Jim McCourt, Family First Party [Religious sectional interest]
  11. Jamie Van Burgel, Australian Christians [Religious sectional interest]
  12. Angela Smith, Sustainable Population Party [Dick Smith supports]
Because we use what is called a "preferential voting system" in our Federal elections (including this by-election) I shall have to number all 12 of the candidates in the order of my preference for which one I want most to which one I want least (1 for the one I want most, 12 for the one I want least). I am fairly 'normal' politically speaking so I will not number the crazy parties at the "want most" end of the spectrum. But as you can see from my comments about the candidates (the bold text in []) I have a lot of nutters or fringe or just odd parties to deal with ....

I've been researching each candidate online, the one I labelled "conspiracy nutter" made a youtube video clip advocating the idea that the Twin Towers were demolished by the USA government on 11th-September-2001, I think that deserved the label "crazy" :)
