What's in your streetlights?

"The biggest appeal of LEDs is their efficiency and cost-saving potential: They aren’t designed specifically to surveil. But the bulbs’ complex wiring and strategic positioning make recording devices an easy addition. When LEDs started brightening the halls of Newark Liberty International Airport in 2014, and malls across the country soon after, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and community members were unsettled to discover that hidden inside some of them were cameras. Others, microphones."

Of course it's all for our safety and security. Now, repeat after me, "nothing to hide, nothing to fear..... nothing to hide, nothing to fear"

I took apart a broken LED light bulb today, because I wanted a look at the circuit it ran through. Nothing complicated and while it would be easy to install a monitoring or listening device to it, aside from less heat (inside the light casing) compared to older style lamps, there's nothing about it that makes it revolutionary in terms of monitoring that couldn't already be done before.

But! Thanks for the reminder. No more Hanky Panky on my midnight walks. :smirk:

The manpower needed to watch everyones every move seems illogical, it requires a 1:1 ratio and its such a silly idea. They should just hire us to watch ourselves and report any thing suspicious lol then everyone will have a job

I found a book in the library and had to buy it after reading a few pages. It comes off as a debunking of 1984 and how it could never happen, the guy makes fun with absurd claims and innovations to come and has no idea that he was actually predicting the world quite well lol... he plays out how "obvious" big brother would seem and that it would never work because we could never be so naive... good read though

1984 has pretty much come true, not to the absurd degree but we are fast heading there

Interesting to see you say that, given your comments in the other thread about why you think we need certain types of guns to be banned.

Many cities hire traffic engineers that use intersection cameras for traffic flow purposes. I happened to speak with one of my city's traffic engineers several years back. He said all of the traffic lights in my town have cameras mounted. I started looking and sure enough they do. He explained that they are all hooked into software to adjust the timing of the lights for most efficient traffic flow. They aren't used by law enforcement for example to ticket people.

Its conceivable that some traffic lights feature a built camera for this same purpose, which would be more cost effective than having the traffic engineers mount separate cameras and wiring. Does putting a camera on traffic light have any possible nefarious purposes as far as privacy is concerned? I don't think so.
