You won't hear this on CNN, but the US has a gang problem.

Every time we talk about city gun violence we hear politicians insist that guns must be removed from households...but no one mentions the gangs. Gang members are NOT going to give up their guns willingly. So you remove guns from every day households but not from the gangs and instantly you've given them more power. Good luck with that.

FoxNews briefly brought up gangs in a report but that was a one time thing and I haven't heard them speak of it since.

When I lived near Chicago (45 minutes from the Loop and 30 minutes to South Chicago), the gangs started infiltrating my small suburban town. The kids in school were being enticed into joining with the lure of money, women, a family feel and power. They talked about it in class. They talked about it in the hallways. No one wanted to talk about it with their parents though or have an assembly about it.

Why is it so taboo to bring up gangs?

Probably because it doesn't fit the desired narrative.

If you've got your regular gun-owning person the chances are they have one or more guns, none of which have been used to harm a human. It's easier to paint that regular easy-going person as some kind of backward, Republican-voting throwback to ages past, the person foaming at the mouth because they won't give up their precious guns even as common sense says that taking guns away makes things safer. The trouble is that actual sense knows that taking guns away from someone who has no intention of harming someone else makes as much sense as suspending the driving license of the person with a clean driving in order to reduce death on the road, while letting the person who habitually drives home drunk from the pub continue to drive.

The US does have a gang problem and has for a very long time. Down here, most of the shootings are gang related. I wonder if gang violence is on the rise or maybe it is cyclical. Things were pretty calm during the shut downs, but more is happening now that things are opening up.

The UK has a problem with gangs and gang violence too. We dont have guns but our knife crime rates are massive. Gang violence is absolutely an issue here, even in my small North Eastern town. Saying that, this is an impoverished area so crime rates are naturally a little higher.
