In your opinion, would you consider a rape victim a virgin if he or she was a virgin before the rape occurred? I'm not asking about dictionary definitions, I'm asking for your opinion. This is a controversial topic that is surprisingly split down the middle. I'm just looking to get a little more insight.

It's an unfortunate situation but I personally wouldn't consider them a virgin anymore. Someone got me thinking and almost got me to change my mind but his argument was, "Virginity is not something that can be taken away.", when in fact, it is. I couldn't get on board with that one. lol

Perhaps we need to rethink what virginity really means. Is it the breaking of the hymen or something more psychological/spiritual in nature?

I suppose a lot would depend on the context and the reason virginity was relevant.

From a medical perspective someone who has had sex is not a virgin. Whether they were a willing participant isn't the point.

If it's about being "pure" for marriage purposes then I still don't see how a rape victim can be considered a virgin but unless there are medical complications from the rape (I'm thinking things like incurable STDs or similar) then I think someone sufficiently serious about their partner to be considering marriage can regard them as being "pure" to the extent that it matters. My thoughts are that things like that would need to be discussed prior to marriage - it seems to me that it would cause emotional issues that a potential spouse would need to know about ahead of time.

I would not consider a rape victim a virgin still because even though she didn't consent, the act still happened.
