Did you ever go to the hospital emergency room?

What for and were you admitted?

I went to the ER for myself once and that was when I was in a cycling accident. I got a room right away because I was brought in by ambulance, but then had to wait hours for the doctor to come stitch me up. By then the swelling was really awful on my lip and eyebrow.

Twice. First time was when my son was a week old and the help just left and he didn't breathe loud with his mouth open and skipped a meal at night because he was sleepy and not hungry. Total panic. He doesn't breathe!!! Ex wanted to shave himself. Are you insane? How dare you? We jumped in the car. I wore my night gown. No time to waste on putting clothes on. The doctor had just gotten a baby herself and she said a bit bored and laughing at us for so much stupidity: he has a skip day.
The 2nd time was when he hit his head to the heating and blood gushed out and I had no normal bandage, so he looked like an Easter egg. It was a very tiny wound and they fixed it with some glue.

Too many times unfortunately. I have several cardiac issues. Because of being cardiac, I was taken back immediately. Several times I was admitted for a procedure and/or observation

Many years ago. Working out of state away from home. Living hand to mouth. No insurance...couldn't afford it. Wife was having another baby. She wanted to go home-birth as it was cheaper. I argued against it as she always had hard birth. But I agreed.

Night came that the baby was born. Midwife was there. Baby was born fine and healthy. But then the wife began hemorrhaging and wouldn't stop. Midwife says we have to go to the er. This was out in the country and it was at least 20 to 30 minutes to the hospital. Midwife called the er and let them know we were on our way. I carried the wife to the car with a trail of blood about 4 inches wide all the way to the truck.

We pulled up to the er. No one was there waiting. I could see them looking outside at us, but they wouldn't come out. It was still night time. I ran inside and they just looked at me with no concern in their eyes. I grabbed a rolling strectcher and took it outside myself. Me and the mid-wife put the wife on the stretcher and wheeled her in. She had lost a whole lot of blood and was extremely pale.

They wouldn't admit her. Home birth. Money out of their pocket. Plus I had no insurance. I begged for them to admit her and get her to a doctor. No doctor would see her. They kept telling me, a doctor is on his way. But he is busy right now. But, they said, we will admit the baby. The baby was fine and healthy and didn't need them. So we didn't admit the baby.

Two hours I sat with a new born baby and wife dying for lack of attention. Finally, the head of the hospital, who was a surgeon showed up to help. She was in surgery and had to be given at least 4 pints of blood, and survived. While I sat waiting to hear the outcome, I looked on all those er workers standing who did nothing. And doctors who passed by who did nothing, but could have. And I said to myself, yall have made me wait, but your going to find out what waiting really means when you start sending me those bills.

Point being, your er is only as good as the people in it. It can be good, or it can be sorry. Mine was sorry to the nth degree.
