Computers and automation in factories, cars, artificial intelligence and so forth is likely to have a profound impact on the work that is available for people to do. Some worry that almost no employment will be left for human beings once AI and automation comes into its own. That may happen within the next 20 or so years. So what do the scriptures have to tell us about the sort of world in which we will some be living?

Will there be a need for a universal basic income and how will that be received by people who despise socialism?

This is a mixed question, it involves scripture, theology, the dignity of human beings, economics, and politics. Let's try to stick with the theological, scriptural and humanitarian issues and leave the strictly economic and political issues as side issues or supporting arguments.

Since the wheel was invented, I suppose there have been those who feared that technology will put us all out of work. It's never happened (even with skyrocketing population). It just means jobs CHANGE. We work less with our bodies (and the bodies of homo sapiens aren't that great at work) and things shift to our brains (which is exactly where we excel). I've heard "The Borg will Absorb Us" thing..... I think it's science fiction and absurd.

Now I will admit..... since watching "2001 - A Space Odyssey" as a kid, I've always believe these things should all have a plug... and we should always be able to unplug the ____ thing, if need be. It's a god-like power we should retain.
