The Biden administration announced its latest home appliance regulations this week, targeting air conditioners in an action it said would reduce the nation's carbon emissions.

The regulations, unveiled Thursday by the Department of Energy (DOE), finalize energy efficiency standards for home air conditioning units, or window air conditioners, and portable air cleaners. The DOE said the move would cut air pollution and push consumer costs down by billions of dollars via energy savings.

This will mean that the price of air conditioners will rise when manufacturers have to make more adjustments. Thanks Biden. Again.

Perhaps our exalted leaders could, you know, actually lead. By example. Shut off all the air conditioners in DC and then lecture the people about air conditioners.

Funny how everything is allegedly for our benefit when all it does is drive the price ever-higher. Sometimes an ineffiicient model is still cheaper than the cost of replacing it, especially for people who don't have the money to buy an energy-efficient replacement. And of course there's also the way old stuff was built to last while new stuff is built to break. I'm endlessly being offered rebates to trade in my old fridge - my fridge is at least 40 years old and it works. A new one would be more energy efficient but will probably break a few days after the warranty expires. A fridge that simply works and was built to last forever might cost more day-to-day but costs a lot less year-to-year than having to replace appliances every few years.
