What types of supplements do you take?

I take magnesium daily and it helps with inflammation. I used to take Vitamin D but it gave me really bad GERD/heartburn so I stopped that for a while and just get outside more to enjoy the sun.

I'm a vegan and I don't even take B-12. However, I do make sure to de-chlorinate my water because chlorine kills the bacteria that produce B-12. On the rare occasion I eat Vegemite fortified with it, but that's it. 3+ years, no anemia problems.

But other than that, I don't see a need. God has provided all the Vitamins, minerals, aminos and essential fats we need through the plant kingdom.

I don't take any supplements. I can get all the vitamins and minerals I need by eating a healthy, balanced diet.

I don't usually take supplements unless I start to feel like my system is off-balance. Usually that means electrolyte tablets - if I've been exercising hard in the sun I need more than regular water to replenish everything and every once in a while I can feel that my body needs extra electrolytes.

There are occasions my head gets into a funny state, which is a good sign I need potassium. If we have bananas I'll have one of those, if not I've got some food grade potassium bicarbonate that I can use. It dissolves well in water, it just tastes foul. I discovered the link to potassium by accident, when I noticed that drinking coconut water helped and later found out it's very high in potassium. So I tried using potassium when my head got into that state and found it worked. My doctor appeared concerned when I first mentioned doing it but when she understood how precisely I had calculated and measured everything she just sat back and said "if it works, go for it".

Too many to count. I've been trying to fix the health issues my doctors seem to be clueless about. Unsuccessful so far.

Recently started taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin to help with knee stiffnes and joint pain. It's been helpful. My arthritis will get worse as I age (passed down from my mom and grandfather - thanks for that!) so doing some preventive things. Not a supplement, but acupuncture has also helped in short term for the same issues

Unfortunately, that is not true. Also, there are substances that can only be found in certain foods. For example, bromelain, which is said to improve a lot of conditions, can only be found in pineapple. Fresh pineapple, not canned. Do you eat fresh pineapple every single day?

When my mom was alive, she was prescribed a special Vitamin D because her body wasn't absorbing that nutrient from food or the sun. I'd hate to have to go through that too.

I used to get severe muscle cramps but since taking magnesium they are gone. Magnesium also got rid of (for the most part) my atrial fibrillation problem that was with me for about 30 years and pharmaceuticals could not provide relief of.

I take other supplements too.

Special Vitamin D? Not just regular vitamin D pills?

Yes, they were only available by prescription because they had to be specially made by one pharmaceutical company.

As much as I'd like to be a good example as probably one of the few (if not the only) vegan on this forum, I have to be honest as well. When I wrote this it was true, and I still believe it. Taking vitamins/minerals is really only necessary if there is inadequate intake from whole foods.

However, I have some bad habits and gradually, over time, developed some more. Alcohol consumption is the big one, but I've also been consuming much more refined stuff over the last few years on a more habitual basis. White rice, white noodles, soda and too much coffee. Course I add some extra fiber to satisfy the vegan gut bacteria...but these refined goods habitually consumed have taken a toll over time.

Because of all this, per a doctor's visit and suggestion I started taking a rather large dose of Thiamine or B1. I never stopped eating whole grain bread, but in the balance of other habits it probably wasn't enough. It's only been 2 days and I already notice some positive differences.

I'm glad you're taking a B vitamin! It really does make a huge difference for vegans. Maybe it will help your corn heal too?

No, I don't think it will help with the corn. I've also been experiencing nerve pain in the same foot (burning, tingling). This is really nothing to do with a vegan diet, just MY vegan diet which as I said had increasing amounts of poor nutrient foods (white rice/noodles/soda) and a multi-year alcohol habit that actually blocks Thiamine. I wouldn't see the need for any vegan who sticks to whole foods and avoids alcohol to have any need to supplement B vitamins at all (perhaps except for the occasional B12 if they are drinking tap water).
