TEXT FROM THE GOSPEL AND HOMILY:
The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke. Glory to you o Lord.
Once, when Jesus was praying in solitude and the disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” They said in reply, “John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others, one of the ancient prophets has arisen.” Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said in reply, “The Christ of God.” He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone. He said, “The son of man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, on the third day be raised.” Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ
A few weeks ago I had the chance to visit a teenager that got into a car accident. The mom told me that the very same morning he told her “I do not believe in God.” He learned that in high school, he said, “I understood that I do not believe in God.” That very same day he got into an accident and when he woke up in the hospital, he said to her “Thank God I'm alive.” As we live in a culture and a society that tells you who God is, who Christ is, we are bombed by a culture that tells us that God is money, true God is material things, true God is this and that and we easily lose sight of who Christ is. As we live our own baptism, we realize that Christ is the Lord that took you from the mystery of sin and that's why we are here this day to celebrate in the Eucharist. Christ is the one who heals your wounds and by recognizing that, through the grace of the Holy Spirit we come together and pray the family of faith. Please stand and let us profess our faith
