I was doing a bit of reading last night on how the heat index is computed, and I discovered that the concept of the heat index was first devised by a meteorologist local to my area, George Winterling.

George is retired now, but most people in the Jacksonville area over the age of 30 will likely think of him first if asked who is THE NAME in weather forecasting for this area. :D

Do you know what the highest heat index is that is recorded for your area?

I managed to find this:

The highest heat index temperature reported in Florida in 2010 was 124 ˚F in Apalachicola on July 31.

I can't really recall heat indices going above roughly 115 ˚F here.

When I looked for the highest in the world, I found this:

However, in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia on July 8, 2003, the dew point was 35 °C (95 °F) while the temperature was 42 °C (108 °F), resulting in a heat index of 78 °C (172 °F).

That must've felt good...:scared:
