Does sparing the rod spoil the child? (Why or Why Not)

I am 100% against any form of physical punishment, and I think that children who do not respond to amiable means of education require therapy, medication, deliverance etc., because I think it is unlikely for physical discipline to correct faulty mental processes. Physical punishment may have short-term effect, as in making them obey their parents out of fear, but it will lead to long-term trauma that sometimes they will not even be aware of when they grow up.

If you use the rod a lot it just ends up making a kid resentful and hardens their heart, but I think there are also times when it is appropriate.

My daughter received consequences related to what she had done wrong instead of beatings and I think it worked out for our family.

I'm opposed to PHYSICAL discipline but in favor of discipline.

THAT said, every kid is different. I was such a sensitive kid that a mere LOOK could destroy me. I had a very big Jimmy Cricket working in me. Others can be really tough. I'm a tad hesitate to tell OTHER parents what to do with THEIR kids. Still, I'm not sure violence is ever the answer.
