Would Reagan have liked Trump as President? Or would he be against him I wonder?

Ronald Regan was not so wise. His time in office saw the disastrous Savings & Loan collapse which plunged USA national and state budgets into serious deficits with a lasting national debt in the hundreds of billions and from which the nation has not recovered yet. And now with Donald Trump at the helm the USA government debt has climbed into the trillions and numerous states are either near bankruptcy or in serious trouble with debt. All those debts will have to be paid some time, maybe not in the next four years or even the next twenty years but eventually the world will stop lending to the USA's government. Eventually the taxes needed to repay the debts will need to be raised from someone.

Of course, because the deficits weren't already climbing before Trump took office, right?

No dispute that Trump hasn't done much of use with regard to reducing the deficit but it's not as if he started from a position of strength.

At some point debts are going to get very toxic. It's hard to see it not turning very ugly.

First President I voted for. And the finest in my lifetime.
I truly miss this type of Christian Patriotic man running our nation to the best of his ability.

I remember many of his speeches. A true American hero.

Well, I don't think money is everything - as in - many are happy being in the upper lower class, or in the middle class - knowing well, a lot of rich people exist. However, though, conservatives like Reagan - in their quest to demolish socialism - might have layed the seeds - now causing illegal immigration. I mean, problems were never solved in Central America, the place where most migrants seem to be coming from.

O.K., the main problem in countries that succumb to socialism - and I mean Communist, not some New Deal American thing - is the fact there is no social mobility and many live in wretched poverty - due to the system, not being effeminate or lazy.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here. How is something like, say, the total collapse of society in socialist Venezuela anything to do with attempting to avoid letting the US become a socialist nation?

A major problem with many of the more touchy-feely-share-and-share-alike political systems is that they rely on the assumption that people will be happy sharing freely. I don't know very many people who are particularly thrilled at the thought of being forced to share, by government diktat, with people who simply can't be bothered to provide for themselves because someone else will do it for them.

I forget who it was who said the biggest weakness of socialism was the simple question, "why would a man struggle to achieve if there is nothing to be gained?". Why would you take on the stress associated with high-paying jobs if you don't end up getting the benefit of the higher pay? If you're going to be taxed at 90% or more on extra money you generate, why hire more people to generate the extra money? It becomes a one-way bet whereby if you lose then you take the hit but if you win the government takes the benefits.

As Margaret Thatcher said, the trouble with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other peoples' money to hand out.

Those Latin American nations are feudal in nature. Unless, some genius can figure out a way to solve that - Communism will always have an appeal - even though, Communism is simply "a more humane feudalism".

Given how communism often ends I'm not sure I'd call it more humane anything.
