Bernie Sanders has this brilliant idea of eliminating student debt and making colleges free. Here's the catch, he says he's going to tax Wall Street. When people hear that they think, Yes, the rich get taxed. NO. WE who invest for our retirement get taxed!!!! So the people who have worked all their lives and have invested in stocks and bonds for retirement now have to pay extra taxes...on money they've already gotten taxed on...to pay for those who don't want to pay off their student loans!
Is that fair? :banghead:
Sanders wants the votes of people with student debt. Nothin' else matters. Liberals never think in terms of paying for anything because economics is a Republican thing; what matters is how you FEEL.
As you know, I'm one of the 24 running for the nomination of the Democrat Party. And I've "out-liberal" old Bernie on this. I'm in favor of eliminating all car debt. Truth is, more people have car payments than student loan payments. This will get me more votes. No Democrat will ask how this will be paid for (it's nowhere on their radar) but some Republican will. My answer: I'm going to tax the ______ out of rich Republicans because they aren't going to vote for me anyway.
It''s PATHETIC how gullible, how thoughtless American voters are - especially those on the left.
Now, I'm in FAVOR of making college free (with some limitations), continuing our American tradition of K-12 to expand 4 more years. BUT I realize this is expensive... and (unlike the Democrats - none of whom have even read the Constitution) I realize this is a STATE issue and the federal government and the president of the USA have nothing - NOTHING - to do with this (besides promising things they are disallowed to do in order to get votes from the "the world owes me whatever I want" crowd). I believe every state needs to work this out as it views best, and probably phase it in over 10 years or so. And it shouldn't necessarily apply to ALL universities (simply to all students) and there needs to be requirements such a min. GPA and max. units.
