Jesus said: “Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.” John 4:22

Paul says: “And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root [Israel], but the root thee.” Romans 11:17–18

So even today salvation is of the Jews. Not of those broken off from Israel in unbelief. But the Israel of God who walk accordingly. “Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule—to the Israel of God.” Galatians 6:16 (NIV)

Jesus is Israel personified in the NT and the Church of believers are His body. Hosea 11:1 says: “When Israel was a child, then I loved him, And called my son out of Egypt.”

Matthew finishes the revelation by saying: “When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.” Matthew 2:14–15

Colossians 1:18 says: “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.” Jesus and the Church are Israel.

So what are we to make of those who say salvation is for every person ever born? Quoting as a proof text: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16?

If we first consider God’s promise to Abraham. That in him all the world or, all the nations of the world would be blessed. And further compare Paul’s teaching that God removed the unbelieving from Israel and added believing gentiles in their place (Romans 11:17), we limit Christ’s death and salvation to the believers from around the world grafted into Israel. And this not of themselves but only those whom God appoints to salvation: “For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;” Philippians 1:29 (KJV 1900)

The capstone scripture proving this is: “…the Lord added to the church [Israel] daily such as should be saved.” Acts 2:47 Paul also says: “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” Acts 20:28

God says of Israel: “You only have I known of all the families of the earth: Therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.” Amos 3:2. So scripture shows that God damned all but Israel. This places serious limits on John 3:16 and directs it back to Abraham’s promise.

Even today, Jesus paid only for the sins of Israel. The Jew and Gentile believers whom the Holy Spirit adds to the church every day.

“But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.” Romans 2:29

Re: Genesis 28:10-17

Well; from what I gather, the Hebrew word translated "ladder" could just as
correctly be translated staircase; which, in my judicious estimation, is far more
convenient for traveling up and down between floors than equipment appropriate
for scaffolding.

Whether a ladder or staircase: the location of the structure is very important. It
was set up in the land that Jacob's posterity (and thus Abraham's) would one day
be theirs for keeps. In other words: some of that scene was telling Jacob that a way
up to God would be provided thru the Jews.

Gen 28:17 . . . He was afraid and said . . . this is the gate of heaven. (cf. Gen 12:3)

Sorry I have to say it because of the Biblical ignorance shown in this thread... so, what Lord Jesus said there in John 4 to the Samaritan pagan woman about His salvation being of the Jews, did NOT mean it was ONLY for those born of the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi that dwelt at Jerusalem-Judea at that time.

1. By the time of Jesus' 1st coming, the MAJORITY OF ISRAELITES had already been scattered out of the holy land! That was the northern ten tribes of Israel that was no longer there, and they made up the majority of Israelites, ten tribes of them.

2. Only the 3 tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi, made up the JEWS of the southern "kingdom of Judah" dwelling in Judea. They only were left in the land, and they only had knowledge of The God of Israel and true worship under the old covenant at the time. (The ten tribes lost their heritage as part of Israel when God scattered them through the countries among the Gentiles.)

3. When the kings of Assyria took the northern ten tribes captive to Assyria and the lands of the Medes about 120 years prior to Jesus' 1st coming, the Assyrians took pagan peoples from five provinces of Babylon which each province had its own pagan idol worship. It was those who the Assryians placed in the holy land in the north where the ten tribes had been. These pagans is who the Samaritans were. It is sometimes thought the Samaritan woman was of the ten tribes, but she was not, even as Christ's disciples wondered why Lord Jesus was speaking to a pagan Samaritan woman, and even the woman herself marveled that Jesus, being a Jew, would speak to her (that per John 4).

4. Then Jesus said she worshiped she didn't know what, pointing to those foreigners from Babylon and their false idol worship. He explained that Salvation was of the Jews, and THEN notice what He said after that...

John 4:23-24
23
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him.

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship Hm must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
KJV

By that Lord Jesus pointed DIRECTLY TO THE NEW COVENANT, and not the Jew's worship of that time anymore which involved a temple and animal sacrifices per the old covenant.

And we well know... that The New Covenant of Christ's Blood shed upon the cross for the remission of the sins of those who believe... is for ALL PEOPLES THAT WILL BELIEVE ON JESUS CHRIST, and is definitely NOT just for those born of the seed of Israel! Apostle Paul in his New Testament Epistles testified of this time and time again.
