Do you believe that there will ever be robots as mentally capable as human beings?

What if a brain could be uploaded to a robot? Then possibly yes.

I call myself a "pessimist singularitarian" in that I believe at some point in the not too distant future, an artificial intelligence will "come online" in a lab somewhere and be self-aware, and capable of geometric progression evolution, surpassing the combined intelligence of all humans who have ever lived within a matter of days or even hours. This should give us pause...would such an intelligence view us any differently than we view some insects...as bothersome resource consuming pests that need to be exterminated?

I like to tell my friends that intelligences vastly superior to our own will likely not come to us from across the vast gap of interstellar space, but will arise in our AI labs.

I could be way off base in being pessimistic about it...it could be that such minds would be altruistic, and help us to solve most if not all problems affecting humanity...cure all diseases and give us technology we can't even dream of now. I just think that we need to consider carefully how we proceed with AI. :D

Yes, within the next 100 years would be my prediction. We will see a lot of people out of jobs, economies crash, and this is all because of Robots performing our jobs for us. I mean, look around you, your using a robot now!?

Speaking of robots. My wife and I were driving down I-70 highway through Kansas City Missouri yesterday and we saw a billboard that read, "sex robots are coming" and there was a website on that billboard as well and after a brief investigation, we discovered it's just as it sounds. o_O

Part of my job is replacing machinery in factories with AI robots to do the jobs of workers.

It is interesting, depressing and frightening all at once!
