Regeneration does not precede faith. The moment a person is saved by the Lord Jesus Christ he is regenerated (born again), given the Holy Spirit.

Do we need life in order to believe or do we need to believe in order to have life?

The Bible clearly and plainly tells us to believe and thou shalt live! Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life John 6:47.
John 3:15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

The Calvinist (believers in total depravity) says, "live and thou shalt believe!" Notice that John 1:12 does not say this. John 1:12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

See, too, that in John 20:31, John says, “ But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
It does not say “that by having life you may believe.”

In his helpless and hopeless condition the sinner is told to look to the Lord Jesus and live. (John 3:14-16; Numbers 21).

The Calvinist teaches that a person must have life in order to believe. The Lord Jesus taught that a person must believe (come to Christ) in order to have life. John 5:40
Why can't men believe? Why don't men come to Christ? Jesus said “yet you refuse to come to me to have life.”
To "come to Christ" has the same meaning as "believing on Him" (See John 6:35, 37, 40). Why do people not believe on Christ? It is not because they have not been regenerated, it is because they refuse to come to Christ by faith (John 5:40; 2 Thessalonians 2:10, 12).

If regeneration comes before faith, then this would make faith unnecessary since the person would already be saved. If a person is regenerated, then he is born of God, a member of God’s family and has eternal life.

Ephesians 2:8-9

1 Corinthians 12:3

1 Corinthians 2:14

Ephesians 2:1

Romans 8:7

Ezekiel 37:1-14

Ezekiel 37:25-27

2 Corinthians 4:6

John 3:5

John 3:6-8

John 6:63

Romans 8:6-13

God GIVES salvation, God GIVES faith, God GIVES life (spiritual and physical).

As God GIVES faith, that faith embraces/apprehends all the gifts from God - His grace, His justification, His Holy Spirit... and life itself.

Soli Deo Gloria

So far no one dealt with what I said and replied accordingly. You all just posted your regular nonsense. That is not how to discuss.

God doesn't save people before they believe.

God gives people the faith and insight to believe and trust God. For example, when Peter preached his first sermon on Pentecost the people said, "they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?". Peter's response was to tell them to repent and be baptized into the name of Jesus for forgiveness of sins and they would receive the Holy Spirit. In that first moment, God gave them the faith to believe and their spirit was pierced.

But, being born again is more than simple belief. The demons believe and shutter James 2:19. It is a belief that leads to repentance. A turning away from sin and turning to God.

They got faith like God says we get it.

We get it by hearing about Jesus, being taught, persuaded, and convinced.

There is no such scripture or teaching from God that says He saves unbelievers and causes them to believe without their knowing or wanting.

Faith is from God, from reading His powerful message, the Bible, the New Testament. It has the powerful message that saves. We do not get faith supernaturally, as many teach, but we get faith in a very human way, from reading the supernatural message!

Acts 11:14 He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.'

We must have knowledge of God to have faith in Him.

2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

Where does our faith come from? Our faith comes from HEARING the word, see Romans 10:17. From hearing the word and being TAUGHT, Colossians 1:5, 7. From continuing in what we have been CONVINCED of, see 2 Timothy 3:14, and being PERSUADED, 2 Corinthians 5:11. In Acts 26:17 Jesus tells Paul he is sending him to the Jews and Gentiles to OPEN THEIR EYES and turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. How do you think Paul is going to open the eyes of the Jews and the Gentiles? Remember, faith comes from hearing the word, and Jesus sent Paul to preach the gospel. 1 Corinthians 1:18 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel–not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Paul is going to open their eyes by preaching to them.
Nowhere anywhere do scriptures say they are given the Holy Spirit BEFORE they hear the message and are taught and convinced and persuaded

Read what Paul says in Romans 16:25-27. Now to him who is able to ESTABLISH YOU BY MY GOSPEL AND THE PROCLAMATION OF JESUS CHRIST, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and MADE KNOWN THROUGH THE PROPHETIC WRITINGS by the command of the eternal God, SO THAT ALL NATIONS MIGHT BELIEVE AND OBEY HIM–to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.

Paul says that God made the prophetic writings known so that all nations might believe and obey. So again, the word of God tells us that faith comes from hearing. Here are more scriptures that explain how we have to HEAR the message that saves: Acts 8:31: 10:14; 11:14; 16:31; John 9:36; Ephesians 1:13; 4:21; Titus 1:3; Colossians 1:5; 1:23.

Yes, that is true. The word has to be preached or taught by someone for people to hear

I am glad we have agreement on this. Many people teach that God just puts faith for Him in their hearts so that they can believe what they hear.
However, God says we get faith by hearing, being taught, convinced, and persuaded. Some people had to see miracles first in the New Testament times.

As for our having to hear someone else preach to us, no. We have access to the Bible and can hear our reading. All we have to do is get Jesus' teachings in the New Testament and do what he says, then we will get saved.

[Act 16:14 NASB] 14 A woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul.

God told me to disagree with your implications ;)

He mentioned this: Where is pride? "Whose heart the Lord opened." Therefore we need God, to open the heart: but God opens the hearts that are willing: for there are hardened hearts to be seen. "So that she attended to the things which were spoken of Paul." The opening, then, was God's work, the attending was hers: so that it was both God's doing and man's. And she was baptised (v. 15), and receives the Apostles with such earnestness of entreaty; with more than that used by Abraham.

She was ALREADY obedient to God!

And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, so that she attended unto the things which were spoken by Paul.

Jesus saves us and gives understand to those who obey him.

Jesus is God. If she knew the Father then she would know Jesus as well.

John 8:42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me.
