I kind of wanted an RV when we moved in here because the previous owners had one and they traveled a lot. Since then, though, I changed my mind. They're gas guzzlers. We're too cheap for that LOL Plus, the winds mean that you can't travel on windy days, even if you have deadlines of when you'd like to get to a place.
Every once in a while I think it might be fun. They aren't necessarily as ugly on the gas as you might think. A friend of mine recently bought an older one, and if he drives it sensibly he can get 8-9mpg out of it. Given it's a 40-foot vehicle that only drinks gas 33% faster than something like a Chevy Silverado that doesn't seem so bad, especially if it means you can sleep in it and not have to pay for hotel rooms every single night.
I have no idea how much it costs to park in an RV park overnight, or how strict rules on parking overnight might be in different places. Sometimes it seems every which way you turn there's a charge for no reason other than someone figured out they could levy a charge.
