Our health is crucial to our wellbeing. Without our health, we are unable to provide for ourselves in other ways and meet our basic needs. As with most things, prevention is the key to avoiding costly health issues that will likely leave lasting impact upon your body and mind. What are your preventative routines? Do you go to the doctor regularly for checkups? What little things do you do in your lives that make a difference in how you feel? What do you stay away from? What are pros and cons of these habits? Please discuss below. Your routine might help someone else build their own routine.

I don't go to my Family Practice doctor very often because I don't get sick a lot. I mostly have allergies.

I do have follow ups with the doctors who are taking care of me because I had 2 different cancers and one is my surgeon and the other is my endocrinologist. I see my surgeon every 2 months for scopes (camera down my nose down toward my vocal chords) and I have cat scans a few times a year of my neck. For my Endo I see twice a year with blood tests and ultrasound to make sure the cancer hasn't returned after my thyroid removal.

I am active every day and try to get at least 10,000 steps in on my step counter. Some days it's easy and others I have to really work at it. It helps me to maintain my weight and is also making me stronger after having 3 surgeries.

I eat healthy (my wfe has been a big help here). And I watch my weight (I suddenly found I need to!). I'm 6-0 tall and keep my weight under 170 which works for me. I try to make those pounds belong to muscle and not fat.

I no longer can go to the fitness center every day, but I try to 3 days a week. And our housing project is basically one circle in a gated community, so it's easy to run the course....and we have a particularly nice pool for our community. I enjoy it and always feel better.

My wife tells me that obesity and inactivity are the two leading causes of health problems.... it's amazing to witness the number of over-weight people, especially sad to see this so often in children. I see high school kids - maybe 50 pounds over weight with a cigarette hanging from their mouth.... SO SAD.

I see my endocrinologist every three months to help me manage my diabetes. Every 3 months we check my A1C to help the doctor know what I have been averaging with blood sugar the last three months. There are other labs we do annually

My health is generally pretty good. I need to lose a few pounds but am increasingly dealing with that by eating less garbage and trying to move around more. A home renovation project helps with that, as does living near the mountains.

Many times for me an annual checkin with the doctor consists of little more than "yeah, I'm still alive". I had a routine blood test something like three years ago that put me in the lowest 5% or so as far as risk for heart issues went, so my doctor doesn't feel the need to do much more than check in with me every year.
