As it stands, Missouri judges cannot legally finalize a divorce if a woman is pregnant.

Three other states have similar laws: Texas, Arizona, and Arkansas. While a pregnant woman can still file for divorce in Missouri, the court must wait until after a woman gives birth in order to finalize child custody and child support.

When it comes to domestic violence, there are no exceptions.

In my opinion to keep an abused woman regardless if pregnant or not in an abusive situation is beyond cruel.

What's your opinion?

It's an old law and lawmakers are working to change it. It was set in place to help with custody since after divorce, the laws at the time were more difficult in that state.

I am thinking that if an abused woman has filed for divorce, she has left the marriage and is staying with family or in a shelter. Many are not going to file while still living with the man.

I do think that this law in all the states listed needs to change. Grant the divorce. Come back after the birth for custody arrangements if that was not established in the divorce for any older children.
