Perpetual state of sin?

If a believer marries again after a divorce, is that person living in a perpetual state of sin?

As I understand it, only three things LAWFULLY terminate a marriage:
1. Death of a spouse
2. Adultery
3. Dissertion (one spouse literally, physically leaves)
Other "reasons" would not be valid and thus sinful.


Can such sin be confessed and forgiven? Yes! But it would place such confession into question if the person committed the sin WITH THE IDEA that it would be forgiven so "go ahead."

I read the article just now. Of course there are things I disagree with because the author has a different background belief but I agree that men can and do live in perpetual sin and that because of God's great mercy and love for us we are forgiven and will have eternal life with him. There are dangers though of willful sin that the author does not go into at all but scripture warns us about in multiple places.

I agree with the article. The problem with the divorce claim is that it’s trying to make a distinction in sins that I don’t think is justified Scripturally or in common sense.

I would guess that everyone is in denial about some kinds of sins, and therefore they don’t repent from those sins. I don’t see how divorce, etc., are any different. If God is sitting there with a list of all our sins and making sure we’ve repented from every one, I think we’re all going to be in trouble, because the whole point of being fallen is that our judgement on this kind of thing is less than perfect. This is also true of groups. I think it’s pretty clear that whole cultures and churches simply ignore certain kinds of sin. I believe as long as they rely on God’s forgiveness they are covered.
