Do you think it's a good idea to put a kid in the trunk of your car?

"The Texas mom who was charged after her COVID-positive son was found in the trunk of her car at a testing site has received support from the community."

I think it's a stupid thing to do but, given the endless blathering from On High about how it's So Very Important to keep away from people who test positive it's not entirely surprising someone figured it was a good way to Keep A Safe Distance.

Unintended effects of legislation and official guidelines. Gotta love them.

Doesn't necessarily mean anything.

A girl I knew as a child grew up to become the head of science at the school where she taught but despite that was still confused how to lay her own child down to sleep, based on the conflicting and endlessly changing advice handed down from on high. If a science teacher is confused by conflicting advice it's hard to see how people less versed in assessing guidelines is supposed to manage.

With the endless virus-related posturing nothing makes sense, except to the one who endlessly blather "follow the science" when what they mean is just do whatever their preferred talking head on TV has to say.

What she could have done is make sure that they were both masked, buckled in, and kept the windows down. But, we don't have the full details. This pandemic has been terribly managed by federal, state, and local governments. I'm hard pressed to judge a mother too terribly when I don't have the full details of her situation.

When I first read the story I immediately thought that the mom could have taped up plastic sheeting as a barrier between the front and rear seats. If she didn't have sheeting she could have torn open a bunch of trash bags and taped them together.

Keeping windows open isn't a great suggestion if it's freezing cold outside, or raining hard, or she has to drive through a high crime area. As you say there are so many unknowns and if she has bought into the "sky is falling" narrative and ended up afraid of her own shadow it's easy to see why she might have thought that what appears outrageous was the best option available to her.
