I would like to return to a Bible Study that allows me to go through the Bible in 2 years.

I've lost a lot of the fitness I worked very hard to get, due to a move and lifestyle change. I need to change parts of my lifestyle back to shift the weight again.

Since 2016 appears to be the year of the Bible I figure I'm going to read it cover-to-cover again. It's been a while since I did that. I enjoyed it the last time I did it, so I'll do it again. It will be good, not only to explore the darker corners of it again (there are always those more obscure books that get neglected) but also because the church I've been going to is talking about having Bible trivia quizzes and it would be good to brush up my Bible trivia knowledge. While I'm at it I may resume the detailed study of Ezekiel I started a few years ago, suspended it due to major illness in the family and never really resumed it.

I also want to spend more time reading useful stuff, and develop at least one new skill. Having just bought a Dremel I think the first candidate for that new skill will be some form of woodworking. I've got a nice offcut of red oak that's about an inch square, I plan to carve it into a chain.

Maybe someone could start a supportive thread for weight loss or healthy eating or some other title?

A few things I want to do this year :

1) I'm still using Windows but want to switch to Linux...in the process of identifying all my important files, programs etc moving them to separate media, then doing a complete and clean install of Linux and learning my way around it.

2) Switch to my vaporizer completely instead of buying cigarettes/tobacco. Tobacco is very expensive in Aus, so adopting this habit will save me a bundle as well as being a somewhat healthier option.

3) Put out some of my more lengthy and time consuming music compositions to the web. Will probably use Youtube and Diaspora, as FB claims certain rights I don't like.

4) Need to get piano fixed and want a new keyboard - I have a keyboard, but I want a different one with weighted keys, a full octave range and more sounds

5) Will be doing this within the next week - ordering bulk organic seeds of various plants. Soybeans is one of them, as so far all the (soybean) seeds I've bought locally here in Aus (at bulk foods, at Asian grocers) will not sprout. I'm guessing they are irradiated or GMO. In any case, I want the seed for myself to store and the soybean seed is to be sprouted and dried for a diabetic friend of mine, to test something.

6) Installing a new driveway. For the length, my budget can't include concrete - I'll probably have to hire a bobcat, cut out a suitable layer, use crushed rock or something similar and some sort of presser to compress it.

Those are a few things planned for this year.

Forgot something important...

I've made my own alcohol for quite a few years now. Mostly beer from kits, but I've also made a relatively high percent wine from scratch (no bought products except the sultanas it was made with - and the yeast was cultivated from those sultanas separately).

One of the things I want to buy this year is a still. And one of the skills I want to perfect is turning complex carbohydrates like those found in rice, and turn them into simple sugars for alcohol production. So far I have only had success with simple sugars - starch conversion to simple sugars has presented challenges. However, success here means a greater yield of fermentable sugars for a fraction of the price.

I very rarely drink wine and even rarer do I consume spirits. I want to do this for cheap fuel. As much for personal economics as for doing something positive individually to get off oil dependence.

Goal of the year: Don't get blown up

Wow...I got way sidetracked on various things and my list is not done!

I did 1 - partially. I have another computer set up for Linux but have yet to transfer all my files to it nor am I using it regularly.

I didn't do 2 or 3 - only a very small portion of my musical output is on the web, and I never adopted the habit with the vaporizer. :( This is an easy one. I just didn't do it.

I did 4 - my piano is fixed (finally) and I put a down-payment on a digital one - but since I am currently not working and living on savings I don't want to pay the balance yet.

I did 5 and am using some of those seeds.

6 requires a lot of money I don't have - or a different plan.

--------

That being said, the year was not totally unproductive. I learned a lot about various things and composed quite a bit.

Is anyone going to a party this New Year's Eve?

What do you hope will happen in 2017?
