In what position were you born among your siblings (first, middle, baby) and do you think it has impacted your life?

I'm the baby and it definitely made a difference in who I am. I think if I had been the first born I wouldn't have been so shy around people. Plus, my parents were stricter with me than with my sister and my sister even admitted it. She went off to college and they tightened the reigns down on ME so I was smothered. I was talking to my dad when he was recently visiting about the things I wasn't allowed to do and he even said that my mom was controlling.

I was the last of three and my parents had not planned on having me, so a surprise.

#5.

I have an older brother and sister.

Two siblings (both boys) died... both shortly before birth. While unbaptized, we believe they are in heaven awaiting us. I know my parents think of them often.

Then me.

How has it impacted me? Well, my brother was a bit of a role model for me, I admired him when I was young and wanted to keep up with him. My sister and I are close (we were very close when I was young), she counseled me... we had very open talks... I could ask her anything and tell her anything. She also chose clothes for me! Now, she and her hubby are Godparents for our boys, and we for her girls. We get together fairly often.

I have a sister who is older by about 15 months. According to all those birth-order books, our personalities are more reversed because she was always needier than I was, which created a codependent relationship between her and our mom. My sister and I fought like crazy - I was jealous of the attention she got from parents and how smart she was, and she was jealous because I always healthier, had lots of friends and boyfriends and eventually married and had a child. She could be pretty nasty - I even found out that she was telling her students through the years that I fried my brain on drugs and ruined my life by making poor decisions. Then when my son was school age, she started telling him the same, including things like he didn't have to listen or obey me because I make bad choices. That's when I decided she didn't get to do that anymore. We have not had a relationship for about 17 or 18 years.

#3 out of 4. I say that I really am the middle child. First born a boy, second born was a girl so first daughter, me and then my younger brother. I am the second daughter in the middle. Sometimes I felt like the forgotten child.

I remember my mom telling that she once asked her mom if she was a surprise (she was born much later than her siblings). And grandma replied, "Back then, they all were."
