Lying to the public

Why can't we just pass a law that punishes politicians for blatantly lying to the public?

Part of the reason society has politicians is so that they can "pass the buck" of responsibility in several areas. Ergo, lying to your constituents is part of the package. There are simply many people that either don't want or couldn't handle truth.

It seems that all politicians have this need to lie. I don't even think a law would stop them.

Funny how the people lying to politicians is called perjury, but politicians lying to the people is just called politics.
